Be an Office Volunteer

smiling babyWould you like to join our awesome team of Office Volunteers?

An Office Volunteer is the very “Life Line” of Birthright, offering one-on-one discussion and positive assistance to girls and women faced with an unplanned or problem pregnancy. Volunteers are scheduled to serve in the office three hours a week, with another volunteer, and are responsible for following up by phone or email with clients they assist.

There is a three-part training session followed by on-the-job training to observe an experienced Office Volunteer interact with a client. An Office Volunteer is a caring individual who listens with their heart to convey hope. For more information email Anita@birthrightofcolumbia.org.

Join us in ensuring that no woman has to face pregnancy alone.

What We Look for in Board Members

At Birthright of Columbia, our Board of Directors plays a vital role in supporting our mission to ensure that no woman has to face pregnancy alone. We seek individuals who are not only committed to this mission, but who bring a spirit of compassion, integrity, and service to their role.

A Heart for the Mission

Board members believe in the dignity of every life and are committed to offering hope, encouragement, and practical support to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

A Spirit of Compassion and Respect

We value individuals who approach others with kindness, empathy, and a nonjudgmental attitude—reflecting the core of Birthright’s philosophy.

Willingness to Serve

Board members are engaged and dependable, willing to give their time, talents, and perspective to support the work of the organization through meetings, events, and special initiatives.

Community Mindset

We look for individuals who are connected to the community and are willing to serve as ambassadors for Birthright—helping to build relationships and awareness.

Support for Sustainability

Board members understand the importance of stewardship and are willing to support fundraising efforts, donor relationships, and the long-term sustainability of Birthright.

Collaboration and Integrity

We value those who work well with others, respect confidentiality, and are committed to thoughtful, mission-aligned decision making.

Knit Booties
A GIFT OF LOVE RECOGNIZING A GIFT OF LIFE

knit bootiesA positive pregnancy test at the Birthright office many times brings anxious, unsettling feelings to a client. From a basket full of soft and colorful baby booties, the client may choose a pair for her baby as his or her very first gift. It is just one simple way Birthright helps a client by letting her know others love and care for her.

Volunteers are always needed to crochet or knit booties in any color of the rainbow. Patterns can be found online at various websites. A favorite is www.bevscountrycottage.com. For more information call or email Rebekah Shilling at 803-403-3391 or rebekah@birthrightofcolumbia.org.

Host a Shower

WE’RE HAVING A BABY SHOWER!

Smiling baby girlBirthright of Columbia is blessed to have many church and civic groups organize baby showers for the benefit of new mothers and their babies. Articles of clothing, blankets, diapers, baby wash, and other toiletry items are collected and donated to help keep the clothing and supply room at Birthright stocked. A mother who has just given birth can visit Birthright and receive a collection of items that will enable her to begin caring for her baby. A Birthright Baby Shower is such a great way to support women in crisis pregnancy situations.

Baby Bottle Campaign

Baby bottleThe Baby Bottle Campaign is our annual Birthright of Columbia fund raising, awareness, and education campaign, available anytime but normally running from Mother’s Day through Father’s Day.

We will provide empty baby bottles to be distributed to members of your congregation or organization and ask that they be filled with loose change and then returned at the end of the campaign. (Bills and checks are, of course, also acceptable.)

It is a fun way for families to help the moms and babies. The bottles can also be placed in different areas of the workplace.

If your church or other organization would like to participate, please call or email Rebekah Shilling at 803-403-3391 or rebekah@birthrightofcolumbia.org.
